Sump Shark® filter basket

The CECOR filter basket plays a crucial role in the sump cleaning process by enhancing filter efficiency. It can function as an actual filter and support media for finer filtering, improving the Sump Shark’s ability to remove solids from metalworking fluids during suction/vacuum operations.

Filtering

As the Sump Shark® sump cleaner vacuums out fluids and solids, CECOR’s patented filter system effectively removes a high percentage of chips, swarf, and other residues from the fluids. The basket can be used as a filter or with additional media for finer particle removal:

  • Fine cotton media
  • Poly media
  • Course (Burlap) media

All three media types are included with your sump cleaner, allowing you to determine which works best for your operation.

In seconds, you can switch to discharge mode and pump out filtered fluid back into the sump at a similar rate. CECOR has also developed a discharge filter to further purify the metalworking fluid before returning it to the sump. Additionally, the sump cleaner can transport fluid for further processing or disposal.

Filtering Is A Complex Process

Effective filtering is a complex process.  Opting for the “lowest micron filter” isn’t always the best strategy, as every sump is different. We’ve worked with companies to clean sumps containing various types of sludge, including tramp oils and other contaminants. Understanding what’s in your sump is essential before recommending the best filtering options. Using too fine a filter in the wrong application can reduce or even stop pumping flow. When comparing sump cleaners and filtering systems from different manufacturers, ensure you’re comparing apples to apples.

Filter Ratings (Nominal vs Absolute)

Most manufacturers use a nominal rating to measure filter efficiency, indicating the removal of a certain percentage of particles of a specific micron size: (i.e. 60% of 25 micron particles). If percentage & particle size are not presented together then the nominal rating is meaningless.

Chips And Fines Caught In Filter Basket

CECOR has developed an innovative filter system based on filter pore size (absolute Filtered metal Chipsrating).  This system can filter much smaller particles due to the “cake” that builds up on the filter as dirty coolant passes through it. This “cake” enhances the filter’s efficiency, allowing it to trap even finer particles. Depending on your application, our absolute 99% efficient 500-micron bag could also be 80% efficient at removing 20-micron particles, effectively making it a nominal 20-micron filter.

Filter Design

CECOR’s patented reverse-taper design eliminates bridging, ensuring the filter empties completely. Bridging occurs when solids get trapped in the filter, preventing proper emptying, which can be a safety hazard if the chips are heavy,

sharp, or otherwise hazardous. With CECOR’s filter, solids do not become trapped. The unique filter pack design provides a continuous filter medium, ensuring all fluids pass through without escaping through slits or openings.

Additional design advantages include a built-in lifting bail, a filter lid that retains the filter, and thick ½” (12.7 mm) gaskets enclosing the filter. CECOR’s filter consists of a metal assembly with a perforated basket that holds the filter bag or sleeve. These filter bags and sleeves are available in various sizes, materials, and weaves to suit your application.
